An intro to fundamental movements of ballet, contemporary and jazz in a follow-along format that will get even absolute beginners moving like dancers. This methodical but satisfying dance workout improves coordination, balance, posture, and core strength, set to fun music.

A contemporary series for those with a little previous experience (even decades ago) or those willing to jump in and follow along.  Learn a set warm-up with floor stretches and core strengthening, ballet barre work, simple traveling across the floor and light jumps followed by (50+ friendly) contemporary and jazz choreography drawn from a range of styles. The 8-week series format allows for a progressive development of material.

FIRST STEPS? Want a quick tutorial on basic steps before jumping into a group class or have a physical issue to resolve? Greta offers private sessions and specialized workshops for the aspiring dancer, or those who want to move like one. Her unique foundational curriculum integrates Pilates, physical therapy, yoga, and somatic practices backed by brief academic lessons in anatomy and kinesiology. Through better understanding you will gain confidence and tap into the deep strength already within you as you learn to move with grace, lightness and efficiency. 

Need some extra TLC? Whether you want to learn basic dance steps at your own pace or if you're dealing with an injury, recovering from childbirth, or navigating your aging body, don't let life's hurdles keep you from moving how you want to move. Greta can customize her program around any movement challenge or goal, drawing experience from her work teaching chair Pilates for seniors in assisted living, or with pregnant/postpartum mothers, to performance refinement or injury rehab for athletes and dancers. 

Hosting clients in her downtown Healdsburg home just five blocks from the Plaza, Greta offers private sessions weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Single "jump start" or monthly "check-in" lessons welcome. Details

Greta is an RYC® Certified specialist in pelvic floor and core dysfunction (often the source of other joint pain), and has been a certified Pilates instructor since 1999, doing extensive professional development and ongoing research in the field of movement analysis and neuromuscular repatterning.

A Northern California native, Greta earned a BFA in Ballet from the University of Utah and went on to dance professionally with the Norwegian National Ballet, worked in musical theater and in many contemporary projects in Europe, SF, and now in Healdsburg where she is a member of UPside Dance Company and co-founder of the Healdsburg Dance Collective. In 2010 she founded the San Francisco Dance Film Festival, now the largest of its kind in the world. Still serving as the associate director of programming, Greta fields hundreds of annual international submissions, which helps keep her well connected and up to date within the worldwide dance community from her small town home.
